I am creative in lots of ways: musically, dramatically, even in business. But when it comes to arts and crafts, my passion certainly exceeds my talent. For the first two years of my son’s life (and before I knew about the toxins found in so many art supplies!), I always bought pre-packaged craft kits, which also meant I never had to hone my homemade crafting skills. But when I quit my job to become a stay-at-home mom after my daughter was born, a tighter budget was part of the package, so I started to look for easy ways to create homemade crafts with the kids. I easily found all kinds of great crafting pages online (http://www.dltk-kids.com/ is one of my favorites) but I continued to buy Play Doh, as the homemade play dough recipes I tried always turned out gritty or dried up too fast. But it always bothered me that my kids might put some of the neon colored store-bought stuff in their mouths, so I continued to search for a better solution.
Then one day my sister was visiting from out-of-town and she made some homemade play dough for our sons to play with. Lo and behold, my kids were still playing with that same batch of non-gritty, beautiful, homemade fun an entire year later!!! No wonder my son calls her his “fairy godmother” and believes that she has magic powers.
This play dough is ridiculously easy to make and lasts so long, I thought I’d better not keep it to myself any longer.
So here it is, the world’s best Homemade Play Dough Recipe. (Need a Gluten-Free Version? Click Here!)
